Homer Skelton Ford Millington

Dec 9, 2020

Ford’s first F-Series debuted in 1948 as the “Bonus-Built” truck. It had eight different weight ratings and several body styles, including a conventional truck, a cab-over-engine (COE), a panel truck, a pickup, and a school bus chassis.

The 2020 Ford F-250 represents the pinnacle of Ford’s pickup capabilities and technology.

Ford built these heavy-duty trucks to tow heavy loads and double as a practical family vehicle. Tradespeople enjoy the base models while business executives enjoy the more luxurious trims. No matter which model and V-8 engine you choose, there’s no shortage of horsepower or torque.

The 2020 F-250 Super Duty offers a slew of entertainment and safety features. It’s the perfect example of a desirable, modern heavy-duty truck. If you’re considering purchasing a Super Duty, keep reading to learn more.

2020 Ford F-250 Updates

Instead of introducing an all-new pickup, Ford opted to update its Super Duties. The trucks have more powerful engines and higher towing capacities. Their towing ratings are the most impressive ratings the HD trucks have ever received.

Refreshed for 2020, the F-250 offers an array of configurations and available trim options. All three truck variants have been enhanced with restyled front ends, while the dual-rear-wheel models have a new, unique face.

Specs and Performance

The 2020 Ford F-250 specs include a standard gasoline 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 385 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. The F-250 base transmission is a six-speed automatic, but most models have a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

All F-250 powertrains pair with either rear- or four-wheel drive. All models can be equipped with optional, more-powerful engines. These engines include the gasoline 7.3-liter V-8 that offers 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque and the Power Stroke diesel 6.7-liter V-8 that produces 475 hp and 1050 lb-ft of torque — a class-leading amount.

The available Tremor off-road package adds a lift kit and fatter tires, in addition to other trail-ready upgrades. The ride can be a bit stiff without carrying a heavy load, but the bumps smooth out when a trailer is hooked up or the bed is loaded.

All models have responsive and firm brake pedals along with manageable steering — even in tight spaces where maneuvering can be difficult.

Wide Range of Towing and Payload Capacities

The Ford Super Duty has a varied range of max payload and towing capacities along with several cab and cargo bed configurations.

Each model claims generous ratings in both categories. The strongest can haul a 4,260-pound payload and pull up to 13,300 pounds.

Comfortable Interior and Plenty of Cargo Space

Inside the Ford F-250 Super Duty, you’ll find a complementary combination of fashion and function, including a practical layout and an intelligent dash design.

Even the base model pickups offer ergonomic environments with user-friendly controls and materials that can withstand heavy use.

Leather-trimmed upholstery and other luxury feature such as heated and cooled front seats, ambient lighting, and wireless charging first make an appearance on the Lariat trim level. The higher trims include features that no other truck in its class has, such as massaging seats.

The F-250 offers a choice of two bed sizes—6.75 ft or 8 ft—but the regular cab is only compatible with the long box. The truck’s versatile trays are highlighted by a huge center-console bin on the models with bucket seats.

The 2020 Ford F-250 Crew Cab takes cargo storage to a new level with a lockable box under its rear seat.

Modern Infotainment and Connectivity

All F-250 models, except for the base XL trim, come standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system is user-friendly and packed with a plethora of desirable features, including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

You can also upgrade to a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and satellite radio (requires a paid subscription after a three-month free trial). The intuitive entertainment system is topped off with large volume and tuning knobs and physical buttons on the steering wheel.

You can fit the larger cabs with several accessory outlets, in addition to two 110-volts power points.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

So far, the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty hasn’t been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the F-250 a four-star crash test rating.

Most Super Duties can come with several driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking and a multi-view camera system. There’s also a blind-spot monitoring system that even works when the pickup is towing a trailer.

If backing up a trailer is difficult for you, you’ll enjoy the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, which can do it for you. All you need to do to back up is turn a knob and tell the pickup where you want the trailer to go.

Other safety features worth mentioning include available automatic high-beam headlights, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Trim Levels

The 2020 Ford F-250 MSRP starts at $35,730, and the truck comes in six trim levels. Each trim level adds features to the one before, and Ford truly has created a truck for each driver type.

The six trim levels are XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. We’ll compare each below.

F-250 XL

The Ford F-250 XL is the base model. It comes standard with the 6.2-liter SOHC V-8 engine that offers up to 385 hp.

The eight-cylinder gasoline powertrain provides 430 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 RPM and features the Flex-Fuel design.

The TorqShift automatic transmission creates six gear speeds and is synchronized with a naturally aspirated propulsion system.

F-250 XLT

Under the hood of the F-250 XLT is an optional 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine delivering up to 1,050 lb-ft of best-in-class torque. This diesel powertrain also provides up to 475 net horsepower.

The fuel injection portal in this eight-cylinder system operates at 36,000 psi. You can also add the optional Live Drive Power Takeoff package to this model. The exclusive PTO provision increases the crankshaft to make it compatible with after-market accessories.

The XLT is also available with an optional 3-inch trailer hitch receiver. It also comes standard with pre-collision assist and lane-keeping assist safety features.

F-250 Lariat

The Lariat’s 7.3-liter V8 engine is designed to deliver up to 430 hp. This all-new powertrain uses port fuel injection (PFI) to start combustion and puts out 475 lb-ft of torque.

The massive eight-cylinder is more efficient thanks to variable-cam timing. This model comes standard with stationary elevated idle control technology to minimize wasteful combustion.

In certain configurations, you can get the F-250 Lariat with a 48-gallon fuel tank. You can also add 20-inch ebony aluminum wheels, 6-inch black running boards, and other custom exterior accessories with the Sport Package.

F-250 King Ranch

The F-250 King Ranch trim level comes with the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, which you can control by twisting a knob on the instrument panel.

The Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera shows you detailed views of the truck’s rear wheels, hitch, bed, and other critical components near the trailer.

You can also count on the Trailer Reverse Guidance feature to maneuver a heavy-duty trailer into a precise point. Other notable interior amenities include climate-controlled front seats, power-adjustable pedals, and a wireless charging pad.

F-250 Platinum

The 2020 Ford F-250 Quad Cab is standard on the Platinum trim. You can identify the Platinum models by LED exterior lighting, satin-aluminum chrome exterior accents, and polished aluminum wheels.

The F-250 is a tall truck, so the power-deployable running boards are a nice touch, improving ingress and egress.

Along with the lower trims’ safety features, the Platinum receives adaptive cruise control and adaptive steering.

The luxury-factor is upped on this trim level with more luxurious leather seating and multi-contour bucket seats. The rear seats also gain heating functionality.

F-250 Limited

The Ford F-250 Limited is the highest trim level available. In addition to the slew of safety features already mentioned and the Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System, drivers get an upgrade with a twin-panel moonroof.

Other luxurious touches include the Dark Ash Swirl wood trim and illuminated scuff plates.
