Complete Redesign
The 2020 Escape is looking to take over the SUV market. Ford expects to have it hit dealerships in the fall of 2019.
As part of the new redesign, the Escape has lost its sharp edges in favor of curves and arched fenders. It gives off the air of more sophistication and class than its predecessors.
The new Escape has a longer, lower and wider body than previous models. It features a trapezoidal grille (similar to Ford’s Mustang) and sculpted wheel arches. The vehicle is also 200 pounds lighter because it’s being built with lightweight, high strength steel.
Technology Features
In a world driven by technology, the new redesign steps up its technology game. Car buyers want the newest and best technology features and Ford delivers with the 2020 Escape.
The vehicle has the head-up display helping to keep the driver’s eyes on the road. At the same time, the display gives you information about adaptive cruise control, navigation, lane-keeping system, and incoming calls.
All Ford 2020 Escapes will come with Ford Co-Pilot360. This offers an advanced suite of safety features including:
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Blind spot warning
- Rear cross traffic warning
- Lane keeping assist
Also as a standard feature, the SUV offers automatic on/off high beams.
Hate having to park in those tight spots yourself? Consider adding Active Park Assist 2.0. This feature allows you to push a button and the car goes into action. It will do your parallel or perpendicular parking for you while handling all the steering, accelerator, and braking needed.
Power and Handling
The 2020 Escape will offer four powertrain options. The vehicle can come with either a 1.5 or 2.0-liter turbocharged engine or two different hybrid options.
The 1.5-liter engine has been rated with a 180 horsepower. The new redesign features an eight-speed automatic transmission, instead of the previous six-speed version. The 1.5-liter version is offered with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive options.
Also new to the 1.5-liter option is cylinder deactivation technology. This allows the car to monitor cylinder use in the engine.
The engine can determine if a cylinder is not needed and deactivate it to make for better fuel economy. It has the ability to switch on and off this feature in 14 milliseconds, all without the driver ever knowing this has happened.
The 2.0-liter engine offers up 250 horsepower. It comes standard with all-wheel drive.
An all-new suspension all improves the handling from the Escapes predecessors.
There are a variety of modes to drive in depending on the conditions. Everyday driving modes include Normal, Eco, and Sport. If needed the Slippery, Snow, and Sand modes can kick in for alternate driving handling based on those conditions.
Interior Features
With a longer body, the Ford Escape interior gets a little roomier too. More head, hip room, and shoulder room are offered in both the front and rear seats compared to previous models.
In the front of the vehicle, several features are worth noting. An expanded glass area increasing the driver’s visibility. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment is raised from previous models, making it easier to reach and use from the driver’s seat.
The rear seat also has several new features worth noting. The second row now can both slide and recline. At 40.7 inches, this rear seat comes in first with legroom compared to the competition.
The rear cargo space offers a 10% increase in cargo space going up to 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
Trim Levels
When it arrives in the fall, the 2020 Ford Escape will have five different trim levels available, including the S, SE, SE Sport SEL, and Titanium versions. Two different hybrid options will come out in the Spring of 2020.
The S trim model serves as the base model which is expected to start at just under $26,000. The SE model adds the 8″ touchscreen infotainment screen which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The SEL trim adds more features including opting for the all-wheel-drive option.
At the top of the line is the Titanium model with prices starting at $37,780. This trim package comes standard with all-wheel-drive and the 2.0-liter engine.
The hybrids will have two trim packages the SE Sport and the Titanium. Both will have come with front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive as an added option. The hybrid is expected to get upwards of 38 mpg.
The Escape’s hybrids will feature a 2.5-liter four/electric motor powertrain giving it 198 horsepower and the capability to travel up to 550 miles on battery power.
