The Mustang Mach-E isn’t just changing the image of electric vehicles, it’s also changing what we expect from their performance. Here’s a closer look at the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Exterior Style
Ford didn’t just introduce an all-electric vehicle, Ford did it with style. Lots of style, and five available trims to back it up. Each trim has its own unique touches that make your Mach-E distinctive in its own right.
Select Trim
The Select trim is the base model but there’s nothing basic about it. It comes nicely equipped with 18-inch Carbonized Gray-painted aluminum wheels with all-season tires, a trunk in the front, and your phone even works as your key.
LED reflector headlights have automatic high beam functionality, courtesy delay, and are wiper activated. Taillights are signature LED designed with sequential rear turn signals. Side view mirrors are heated and power operated with LED turn signal indicators and a Pony projection lamp.
California Route 1 Trim
Next up is the California Route 1 trim which features a panoramic fixed-glass roof and an infrared reflective windshield. It rolls on stylish 118-inch High Gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels with Low Gloss Black aero covers. Side view mirrors are power-folding with memory and black painted caps.
Premium Trim
Ford offers a Premium trim that builds off the previous two with a hands-free foot-activated power liftgate and acoustic laminated side window glass. Wheels are upgraded to 19-inch Machined-Face aluminum with High Gloss Black-painted pockets. LED projector-beam headlights with signature lighting replace the reflector headlights on the lower trims.
GT Trim
The GT trim adds plenty of comfort on the inside while upgrading your wheels to 20-inch cast aluminum with aero covers. You’ll also get access to additional option packages.
First Edition Trim
The top-of-the-line First Edition trim comes with all the features above plus the Comfort and Convenience Package and the Active 2.0 Prep Package standard.
Powertrain Options
The Select trim uses a 68-kWh electric motor and your choice of a rear-wheel-drive system or an electronic all-wheel-drive system. Its power numbers are impressive coming in at 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on the rear-wheel-drive system and 428 pound-feet of torque on your all-wheel-drive model.
You aren’t limited by a driving range of up to 230 miles. It also clocks a respectable 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds with an all-wheel-drive and 5.8 seconds on the rear-wheel-drive.
An 88-kWh electric motor is standard in the California Route 1 trim which is rear-wheel-drive only. You won’t lack for power either with 290 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. You also get an EPA estimated 300-mile driving range and a 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds.
Ford’s Premium trim uses both the 68-kWh electric motor for standard range and the extended range 88-kWh electric motor. RWD and eAWD are options as well. Your 88-kWh electric motor gives you an outstanding 346 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque.
In eAWD models, your 0-60 mph time drops to 4.8 seconds.
The GT trim uses only the eAWD and an 88-kWh electric motor to deliver 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Ford offers a performance-tuned version that puts out 634 pound-feet of torque. Your 0-60 mph time in the standard trim is 3.8 seconds and a phenomenal 3.5 seconds on the performance-tuned edition.
The First Edition trim uses the 88-kWh electric motor with eAWD and produces the same power numbers as the Premium trim with the same settings.
Interior Style
When you slip inside the Mustang Mach-E interior you are immediately immersed in comfortable, ergonomically designed seats. All your controls are intuitively placed within easy reach. A 15.5-inch touch screen runs all your infotainment features.
Ford’s Sync 4A with Enhanced Voice Recognition and Connected Navigation system is standard on every trim, as is FordPass Connect. With Sync 4A you can sync all your smart devices to send and receive calls, access navigation information, and stream your favorite music all hands-free.
A wireless phone charging pad, rotary gear shift dial, and intelligent access with push-button start are also standard.
Premium ActiveX seats are beautiful and easy to maintain and feature heating and ventilation standard on the upper trims, along with a heated steering wheel. Miko inserts with copper or metallic stitching add a unique style. Ambient lighting with multiple colors adds sophistication.
Driver-Assist Systems
Every Mustang Mach-E comes with Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, a suite of driver-assist technologies designed to keep you safer while simplifying your drive.
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking uses forward-mounted sensors to monitor the traffic ahead. If it detects a potential collision you’ll receive visual and audio alerts. Should you fail to react in time the system will apply additional brake support to help lessen the potential impact.
Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert
Ford’s BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert gives you eyes where you normally can’t see. BLIS uses optical sensors mounted to the side and rear of your Mustang Mach-E to monitor your surroundings. It provides visual and audio alerts when a vehicle enters your blind spot while making a lane-changing maneuver or if a vehicle crosses behind you while in reverse.
Lane-Keeping System
Ford’s Lane-Keeping System is included and uses cameras mounted high on the windshield to monitor your Mustang Mach-E within marked lanes. When it detects an unintentional drift it alerts you. If you drift too often in a short period of time the system advises you to take a break.
Reverse Brake Assist
Reverse Brake Assist is very useful in those busy parking lots, as well as, simply backing out of your driveway. The system will alert you to potential obstacles while in reverse.
Should you fail to stop in time the system will apply the brakes for you, saving you a potential collision with another vehicle or perhaps saving you from running over the bicycle your child left in your driveway.
Post-Collision Braking
Post-Collision Braking is there to help you avoid a second collision. Often after an accident, vehicles can roll slowly but without the engine running you have little control. If you are injured in the first collision you might not be able to brake on your own. That’s where the Post-Collision Braking system can help. After an accident, the system engages the brakes to keep you from unintentionally rolling into traffic and being involved in a second accident.
Reverse Sensing System
Ford’s Reverse Sensing System and Rear View Camera use optical sensors mounted low on the rear bumper. These sensors provide video feedback to your infotainment screen along with audible beeping that increases the closer you get to an object.
Auto High Beams
Auto High Beams can sense oncoming headlights or the taillights of a car you are approaching. The system automatically toggles you to your low beam setting when lights are detected. When the way ahead clears it returns you to high beams automatically.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is an additional suite of driver-assist systems available as a package option.
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go. This system uses a combination of radar and cameras to keep your Mustang Mach-E at a preset speed and distance in traffic.
The system automatically slows you down as traffic ahead slows, even to a complete stop. When the way ahead clears you are returned to your preset speed and distance.
Evasive Steering Assist
Evasive Steering Assist can recognize an emergency situation by monitoring your braking and processing data from its radar and camera system. When the system deems a collision is imminent it will apply additional braking and emergency steering input to help mitigate or avoid an accident altogether.
Lane Centering
Lane Centering is a great system for those long commutes and road trips. It uses cameras to monitor your Mustang Mach-E within marked lanes and provides gentle steering correction to help keep you centered.
Speed Sign Recognition
Speed Sign Recognition scans the roadside for signs, recognizing a variety of them. This information is then transmitted to your infotainment display along with an alert to keep you posted on changing rules of the road.
Intersection Assist
Intersection Assist is a similar system to that of the Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking system. It uses the same technology to monitor oncoming traffic when you are signaling for a left turn. If you attempt to turn left into a potential accident the system will engage the brakes to help you avoid a possible impact.
Connected Built-In Navigation
Connected Built-In Navigation uses real-time traffic data to help make your commute easier. It alerts you when an accident or other congestion ahead is detected, and will automatically re-direct you for the fastest route.
